4. Cycling Strategy
Weve received a response saying that they wont discuss the strategy with us until the Local Implementation Plan is produced, earliest April 2003. A report to the Association of London Government indicates that SE London Boroughs are failing to spend their allocations for the London Cycle Network.
We have written expressing our concern, but three weeks later, no response received.
Liz has spoken to the local press about and there was a photocall on Saturday with the News Shopper.
Agreed that we should lobby the council (January meeting?) Nick to establish most relevant date/committee. Nick
We should also work on our priorities for the LCN+ to bring back to next meeting and to present to committee. Nick, Julian, Anthony, Chris

6. Green Chain Management Plan
Greenwich Council is leading the consultation on the Green Chain Management plan for 2003-2008. Theres no mention of cycling in the document in spite of known conflict between cyclists and pedestrians, in some instances, and despite the potential for increasing use of the parks through cycling. Existing signing is confusing. We need to respond. Anthony volunteered to draft a response for circulation and discussion at next meeting. Anthony
7. Planning issues
Thamesmead-Beckton Bridge.
Consultation on the bridge starts early next year, though the Council seems to be supporting it already. Whilst we could possibly agree that segregated cycling provision should be made on the bridge, there is a question over whether we feel the bridge is necessary at all given the additional traffic it is likely to generate ad bring to the area. TfLs estimates of the public transport use of the bridge seem unattainable. Crossrail through the Royal Docks would provide a public transport alternative.
Barry will invite the TfL team to our February meeting Barry
