Minutes of meeting 3 July 2002.

1. Introductions.
Welcome to all new members.

2. Note of June Meeting.
Agreed.

3. Press officer vacancy.
Liz Delap nominated by Nick Williams, seconded by Rushton Aust. Elected unopposed. Nick to pass on listings details etc. Nick/Liz.

4. Bike Week.
Barry introduced a report of the week’s activities. Though attendance was good, it was down on last year. Reasons – weather , World Cup.

Suggestions for next year.
Possible road racing event around the Dome. BM to approach the new owners with proposal, Barry. Treasure Hunt, possibly ending in picnic.

5. Cycling strategy.
Awaiting a response from Councillor Brooks who is on holiday.

6. Anti-racist festival.
Hilary is leading an easy-going ride to the festival from Cutty Sark Gardens at 11am. Participants advised to bring a lock, Hilary. GC stall will be in the activity area. Set up from 10:30am, break down 5pm. Kate/Rushton/Nick.
Crazy bikes arrive at 10:30am, Nick.
RA to bring table and gazebo, Rushton.
Need a float, Nick.
BM to arrange Banners and bamboo poles, Barry.
T shirts, BM to deliver to Rushton, Barry/Rushton.
Hilary will pick up some LCC stuff, Hilary.
Maps – Kate will ask Andy to collect from Barry’s office, Kate.
Display boards for the big map (to collect views about key routes including north/south routes), Kate.
Helpers needed – volunteers include Karen, Rushton, Nick, Barry, Julian, Ayako, Kate all

7. Foot tunnel centenary.
Binney’s are now organising a posh brunch to which we may be invited. They’ll be leading a walk to the foot tunnel in period costume, but cycling issues being downgraded. Barry will continue to push, Barry.

8. Car Free Day.
UK government has ratified CFD. Mayor supporting but lukewarm (closure of Tower Bridge only). But Greenwich Council now not planning any road closures, due to A2 closure.

It was proposed that we do a ride around to other events in the capital. And that we write to the Council expressing our regret and suggesting that a festival should still go ahead, that there are alternative venues (Greenwich, Blackheath – on the A2!); need to keep the momentum; especially given the air quality strategy and transport plan priorities, Nick.

9. LCC consultation strategy.
LCC is consulting on LCN+, a slimmed down version of the London Cycle Network providing direct, high demand, high quality routes. Consultation meetings arranged.

Agreed to collect suggestions for key routes – especially north/south - at Plumstead anti-racist festival al.l

10. Membership.
Liz suggested that maintenance of a membership database not a sensible use of time and effort.
Agreed to keep stocks of Pedal Power at 4 key locations: Greenwich Tourist Office; Halfords Woolwich Road; Harry Perry Cycles, Woolwich; and Forum @ Christchurch, Kate.
Note to this effect to be on Pedal Power, Kate.
Malcolm will do a mailing suggesting that people send S.A.E.s if they want further copies, and that they are available at these 4 points, Malcolm. Plus we collect names and addresses at Plumstead anti-racist festival.

11. Sustrans Rangering.
Carried over to next meeting.

12. Planning.
Creek Road development Thames Path opening imminently. Rushton attended the Greenwich Debate. Future of existing cycling provision looks certain. Bike parking at the Dome/North Greenwich an issue. Rushton to send details of developers website4 to Barry Rushton.

13. Easy rides.
Hilary plans an Easy Ride for 7 September to Surrey Docks Farm. Thames Pumping station suggested – to coincide with an open day, Hilary. Pedal Power to state that routes to be confirmed, Kate.

14. Christmas Celidh.
Barry has provisionally booked band (£400) and venue (£300) for an Xmas bash – would take 200 people. Agreed to proceed with tickets @ £12 and with food included. Volunteers will be needed on the night. We will invite Southwark and Lewisham.

15. AOB.
