2. Future Rides.
John Hearns (chief rides coordinator) said he would post on the website towards the end of each week the next few rides planned. Interest was expressed in longer-distance and charity rides such as Richmond to Windsor.
Barry Mason said the Dunwich Dynamo overnight ride on July 31 had drawn 80 applications to date, compared with about 40 at the same stage last year. Barry still taking bookings for the £13 coach return after this popular 120-mile ride to the East Anglia coast, now in its 12th year. Jason Joyce, John Warren, Nick Williams said they would help John H organise a "Tour de Greenwich" event on the last day of the Tour de France on July 25. Wanted - a pub which will screen the Tour finale.
3. Bike Week 12 - 20th June 2004
Jason said more than 100 people took part in several rides he coordinated during the week, including 12 to the Kent/Surrey border country, 12 up the Lea Valley, 11 to the Pilot Inn, 13-14 to the Bikefest event in London, 10 commuters to the Tate Modern breakfast, 6 to The Red House, also to the Hoo Peninsula. Thanks Jason for coordinating, also to Derek Mark for the midweek barbecue.
4. Off Yer Chest - an excuse to moan.
Consensus view was that the Trafalgar Road traffic calming measures are as bad as we had predicted, and we (Nick) should tell the Council so. Other gripes included awkward roundabout at top of Maze Hill (Malcom). Bicycle parking - rather than spending its full budget on a few lockers at Greenwich Station, the Council should install as many bike racks as possible at key locations. Supermarkets should be asked to provide more bike spaces.
5. Planning
Nick circulated Notes on our meeting with David Moorhouse, the Council's cycle officer. (see separate posting).
Some cyclists said at the meeting we should focus on main LCN+ routes, the one-way traffic system in the heart of Greenwich and blind corners on the Thames Path rather than get waylaid by lesser though useful schemes the Council has in mind.
6. Finance.
New treasurer Derek said we're overdrawn by about £100. AGM hire of hall and refreshments cost about £400. Donations, offers to sponsor a meeting welcome. Derek talking to Hilary Samuels about administrative costs of the schools cycle training projects.
