Notes of Meeting - March 2007

Including Minutes of Planning Meeting for Bike Week on 22 Feb 07

1. Welcome & Introductions
ulian Dobson (Chair), Anthony Austin, John Clarke, Stephen Craven, Liz Delap, Derek Mark, Barry Mason, Stuart Parkins, David Senior and Ray Suomi. Donald Anyiam in attendance. Apologies from Andy Braben

2.Minutes of Last Meeting.
Approved with one amendment (item 8 – the attack referred to involved serious but not fatal injuries).

3. Matters Arising.

4. Planning.
Thames Path
Don said the imminent CRIM on the Thames Path would focus on specific areas such as Creek Road, East Greenwich Industrial Zone around Lovell's Wharf, around the O2 (the LCN route around it is now definitive), and Woolwich Urban Village (Arsenal site) including provision of riverside paths within development land. Barry raised the question of continuity of the path at Lovell's Wharf during development work; any closure should be for a minimum period necessary, not throughout the contract as at Mast Quay. Agreed to draft a letter to the Council on this. Action – Stephen.

CRIMS/CRISPS
Don disagreed with the statement expressed at the previous meeting about the benefits or otherwise of CRIMS and CRISPS; he considers that improvements have been delivered as a result of them but it does take a couple of years for results to appear. The Council is working with TfL on trunk routes and will consult the group as a stakeholder on proposals for junctions.

Westminster Estate
TfL has invited funding bids for greenways and riverside paths which seems the ideal grant source for the estimated £1M cost of bridging the gap along the river wall. Bids have to be in by 25 March and need to be submitted by a local authority or similar. Our group would not qualify. Don said there would be no money for match funding and he would have to get approval from senior management to place the bid. The link remains in the Council's programme of works but unfunded as yet. The group expressed disappointment at this response and proposed writing to the Council (Peter Brooks) urging them to apply. Action – Anthony.

5. Rides
Ray asked for ride leaders for 17 and 24 March and 7 April to complete the forthcoming programme.

6. Events
Mayor's ride – 29 April
With the Mast Pond Wharf link now reopened the group could support the event. Janet (Greenwich Council co-ordinator) requests a ride leader, back-marker and marshals. Ray and Eric volunteered as back-markers and trouble-shooters. Don said two charities would be supported, details will be placed on the Council website. Action – Anthony to contact Janet and bring brochures next time. Action – Liz to get Bike Week leaflets for Mayor's Ride goodie bags.

Bike week – 16-24 June
A sub-group had held one planning meeting – report included below. One more leader is required for an afterworker ride on 18 June. Agreed that afterworkers from CSG should not start before 7pm.

Tour de France – 7-8 July
Nothing further to report at present.

7. Pedal Power
Julian introduced Stuart Parkins as the new editor and said the onus was on all members to produce copy for the publication. The previously stated aim of monthly issues in spring/summer and bimonthly (at least) at other times was reaffirmed. The deadline for the next Pedal Power is 14 March. Barry said the next deadline for getting inserts in London Cyclist (June issue) is 1 May. Stuart said he could get black & white printing done very cheaply.

8. Any Other Business
None
