Notes of meeting 7 May 2003

1. Introductions

3. Pedal Power
May edition now out. June edition deadline 29 May.
Leafletting session and cycle count 7am-9am Tuesday 20 May. Meet at 6:50am Cutty Sark Gardens. Andy, Jason, Chris, John, Theresa, Kate

4. Bike Week
We’ll be running 14 events (full details in Pedal Power and on the website) starting before Bike Week proper with an information stall 1 June, Free cycle training 8 June and 2 afterworker rides with professional trainers. A particular highlight is the Midsummer Madness ride, and the week’s events culminate in a picnic in Greenwich Park.

Posters available and distributed. Please post them promptly. All
£1500 funding from LCC.
The regular easy-going ride (first Saturday of the month) will still be running in June – destination is Camden Market.

5. Thames Crossing
Jenny Bates form Greenwich Friends of the Earth addressed the meeting. She explained that FoE are pressing for proper, worked up alternatives to a road bridge. Consultation is expected to start early next week. Volunteers needed for leafleting and campaign work. Contact details circulated.

It was agreed to establish a sub-group to look at the issue in more detail and report back. Andy, Anthony, Doug, John.

6. Annual General Meeting and elections
New roles and responsibilities will be circulated Karen
Simon Brammer – the new Director of LCC – will attend
There will be a buffet and pay bar after, in the Forum until 11pm.

7. Cycle Strategy and LCN+
Anthony, Hilary, Douglas and Nick met with David Moorhouse, the Council’s Cycling Officer. Initial meeting was very friendly and exploratory, covering a number of cycle schemes planned for this year. The meeting was a very positive start, providing a lot of useful information, though it seemed there Dave was working mainly on capital schemes and not many of the other related issues. The capital schemes were rather piecemeal. There is lots of potential though for working together. Dave had offered to meeting bi-monthly, in advance of GC meetings so that we can report back to this meeting. Nick will arrange establish dates for these meetings and set up a pre-meeting to establish our priorities. Nick

8. Department of Transport Grant application
The outcome of our bid for an intensive series of events at Eltham Green School will be known in June.

9. LCC Report
Barry reported that there are still places at the LCC conference on Saturday 10 May.
Wednesday 18 June – volunteers are needed to help with the annual MPs bike ride, 7:45am outside the college of Physicians, Outer Circle, Regents Park. anyone
LCC are establishing a ‘Business development committee’

10. Planning issues
* The Council is consulting on a 20mph zone around Maryon Park.
* The Council has installed a semi-protected lane along a stretch of Plumstead Road near Plumstead station. Members are encouraged to take a look at it and report back to Nick. It may be the shape of things to come. all

11. Rides
We have a huge programme of rides , though there are gaps in mid May and July. Please create a ride or suggest one! Contact Barry or Hilary who will help to work it out.

12. Finances
Karen reported that they are still healthy, with £1000 in the bank. The bulk of this is committed to Bikeweek, especially training, printing and advertising. We’re making a profit on the maintenance classes.

13. AOB
It was reported that all day train travel is available for £10 via www.southcentraltrains.co.uk. Andy to send details to the email list. Andy
