Lea Valley to Waltham Abbey

Friday 1st April 2005

Three of us rode to Lea valley towpath in the mild spring sunshine last friday. There was much narrow boat activity among the swans and ducks (two swans nesting and a great crested grebe - I think) and the trees were bursting into leaf. A nice smooth riding surface now through Hackney marsh and new benches are being installed. There is only a short section, about 2.5 miles, by Pickets Lock where I wished I had some suspension to cushion my hands.

Coffee and tea at the rowing club and lunch in a pub were welcome and we rode just beyond Waltham Abbey before coming back via the Hertford cut, Victoria Park green link and Regents canal. Thanks to David for leading on that. 40 miles total.

Next time I plan to go further on into Hertfordshire and take the train back.
