Ladywell Fields

Somewhat to my amazement about 40 riders met up at CSG today - this being the first of this type of ride which Greenwich cyclists have organised. It was very pleasing to see such a good turnout, probably due to publicity at the Mayor's ride last Sunday. The group included a number of children from about six to thirteen, with parents, adults without children and one toddler in a bike seat. We proceeded along the route with a variety of stops to keep everyone together and to negotiate barriers and road crossings. Several children were champing at the bit to race ahead, but the group held together quite well. The route was very pleasant - flowering trees, open spaces, the river, parks and a minimum or roads. A bonus was the weather which was about as good as we've had this year. We had a couple of stops, by the river at Bellingham and in Cator park in Beckenham. Then the group split into one returning along the Green chain walk on roads and paths through Eltham to Greenwich and another one returning along the Waterlink way.
